A new weekly tradition! This week’s Feature Friday is a compiled list of my current favourites… more lifestyle than fashion or beauty…. I hope that this post gives you some inspiration for those days that seem to drag on, or if you just need a little direction about what to watch/ listen/ read/ explore next!!
Youtube
Although I have never really been a big YouTube girl, I have recently found myself popping on a quick video in the background while I get ready in the morning or brush my teeth at night. Two of my favourite youtubers at the moment are Fashion Mumblr and Freddy My Love. Both of which are fashion and beauty bloggers based out of London with incredible style and just a lovely demeanour to brighten your day.
Podcasts
I listen to pretty much at least one podcast a day. They are a super easy way to learn a little more about something… the "podcast“ app has thousands of free podcasts on just about any subject. Check out Fashion No Filter for in-depth reporting about the in’s and out’s of the fashion industry or Like to Know It Influencer Radio to get a better understanding on the MANY different ways influencers play a role in todays society.
Books
One of my favourite books of all time is Paco Underhill’s “Why We Buy”. It is so fascinating, delving into the strategies that retailers use to make consumers buy more. Though it sounds like it may be a dry read, trust me, it is most certainly not. If you want to read a more informational type, look at Sali Hughes’ “Pretty Honest” for a funny and applicable guide to beauty (it also makes an excellent decorative book).
Wellness
Taking time for yourself is one of the most important things that you can do for both yourself and others. It puts you in a better mood and allows you to connect with what you need. Things that I have found to be necessities in my wellness routine are sticking to a regular sleep schedule, practicing yoga/ meditation and taking one night a week to have a pamper night.
Each night I go to bed by 11:00 pm and wake up at 8:00 am, maintaining a regular sleep time is scientifically proven to increase your mood and your body’s ability to function. Upon waking up, I practice about 45 minutes of a yoga flow to wake up my body and to increase my mobility. Check out lululemon and sweaty Betty’s instagram accounts for IGTV videos to help lead your yoga practice, alternatively YouTube has so many options. Lastly every Sunday night, I take time to relax and pamper myself. This includes a long bath with candles, a deep cleansing face and hair mask as well as an early night in bed. I have found that this ritual prepares me for the coming week while refreshing my mind and body.
I hope you have enjoyed this week’s Feature Friday, a new one every Friday.
XOXO Ally
